Our client who operates in energy industry noticed one of their fan vibrating more than usual. Client were using hand held vibration measuring device to trend vibration levels. Nome’s experts were contacted to resolve the problem.
Vibration measurements were performed from different point of the machine using online monitoring device, which allowed to analyze vibrations in real time. Fan was operated in different power ranges to ensure that vibrations were not caused by resonance.
Measurements indicated that the impeller was out of balance. That is one of the major faults found in industrial fans. Velocity measured from non drive end of the motor was 10,6 mm/s RMS in vertical direction. Frequency of the vibration occured at the rotation frequency of the impeller.
Balancing weight was added to the impeller. Total weight was 240 grams. Position of the weight was calculated using results from vibration measurements. Review measurements were performed and the result was 1,4 mm/s RMS. This was stated as a good result.
Measurements and balancing were perfomed within two hours. Client received report that showed the results of the measurements.
